Mid-Level ProvidersMid-level providers are clinical medical professionals who provide patient care under the supervision of a physician. Two examples of mid-level providers are physician assistants (PA) and nurse practitioners (NP). Both PA's and NP's are licensed and credentialed to practice medicine. They can conduct physical exams, diagnose and treat illnesses, order and interpret tests, provide counseling, and write prescriptions.
PA's are educated in the medical model similar to physician training. Physician Assistant's obtain national certification through examination post graduate school. PA's maintain certification by logging 100 hours of continuing medical education every two years and sitting for a recertification exam every 6 years.
The PA's at Ithaca Orthopaedic Group are nationally certified medical professionals who evaluate and treat patients in the office as well as assist our surgeons in the operating room. They perform initial and follow-up patient examinations, pre-operative history and physicals, as well as provide post-operative care to our patients in the hospital and office. Working alongside our surgeons, we provide expert care to ensure optimal recovery and your return to normal activities.
